Wild Blueberry Pie and Vanilla Ice Cream

Pour Some Sugar on Me
What is your favorite sweet thing to eat? Bread pudding? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? A smooth and creamy piece of cheesecake?
I am taken down the memory lane with Pour Some Sugar on Me.

My most favorite sweet thing to eat is home made wild blueberry pie with home made vanilla ice cream on top.

My grandparents met, fell in love and got married in Northern Minnesota. They lived in South Dakota but every fall they would make a trip to Minnesota to pick wild blueberries. I would like to think they met each other while picking blueberries. Those wild blueberries were carefully picked and then canned in quart jars. Many were brought home for people to enjoy until the next blueberry season started. I’m not sure if the main reason for the annual trip was only to pick blueberries, I think it was also a second honeymoon. I know grandma and grandpa looked very happy after they returned home from their annual blueberry picking trip.

There are many ways to make home made ice cream. I have the following picture of a Model T Ford with the left rear wheel jacked up off the ground, it is idling in low speed. There is a belt running from that rear wheel to an ice cream making machine that is set up behind the car. This ice cream maker will make a very large batch of ice cream. I thought this was a very unique picture, it was taken at a family reunion in northern Michigan several years ago. The fellow that owns the cars and the ice cream machine is very proud of his vehicles. They are all in outstanding condition.

Home made wild blueberry pie with home made vanilla ice cream on top will always be number one in my sweet dreams.

  1. Ah yes. I’ll vote for your favorite as well. I buy fresh blueberries here, disinfect them and freeze them. They are incredible mixed with yogurt…It freezes the yogurt around the blueberries. Yum.
